Search engine listing
This is the title and short description that show in Google results and in link previews when someone shares the product on Facebook, WhatsApp, X or in a message.1
Open the product
Go to Products and open a product.
2
Edit the listing
Find Search engine listing and click Edit. The box above shows how the result will look.
3
Write a title and description
Page title — up to 70 characters fit in a search result. Meta description — up to 160.
The counters turn red when you go past what search engines usually show.
4
Save
Click Save. The change reaches your store after your next save or publish.
Barcodes
Each variant can carry a barcode — an ISBN, UPC, EAN or GTIN. Open a product, open a variant, and fill in Barcode (ISBN, UPC, GTIN…). Save the product. Use the number printed under the barcode on the item or its box. Marketplaces, shopping ads and warehouses use it to recognise the exact item. Leave it blank if the item has no barcode.Alt text for photos
Alt text is a short description of a photo. Screen readers read it aloud to shoppers who can’t see the picture, and search engines use it to understand your images.1
Open the product
Go to Products and open a product.
2
Click ALT on a photo
Hover over a photo (on a phone, it is always shown) and click ALT.
3
Describe the photo
Say what is in it, in plain words — for example “Green linen shirt, front view”. Up to 512 characters.
Click Save.
Importing and moving from Shopify
All three come across automatically:- CSV import reads the SEO Title, SEO Description, Variant Barcode and Image Alt Text columns. See Import products from a file.
- Importing from a Shopify link and moving your store from Shopify bring them over too.
