Change the settings
- In your dashboard, go to Settings → Checkout.
- In Customer information, choose an option for each field.
- Click Save. Your live checkout picks up the change within a minute.
Optional shows the field with “(optional)” in its label, and it never stops a shopper from paying. Required blocks payment until the field is filled in. Don’t include removes the field.
Phone number
- Choose Required only if your shipping carrier or payment provider needs the customer’s phone number. For example, FedEx labels need one.
- Apple Pay and Google Pay ask for a phone number only when it is set to Required. Otherwise the order keeps any phone number the shopper typed into the form.
- On a local pickup order there is no shipping address, so a required phone is not enforced.
Company name and address line 2
- Apple Pay, Google Pay and PayPal don’t collect a company name. Orders paid that way have no company, even when you set the field to Required.
- Setting Address line 2 to Required or Don’t include can stop some shoppers from finishing their order. Optional suits most stores.
- The company name is saved on the order’s shipping address.
State, province and postal code are not settings. Checkout asks for them only in countries whose addresses use them, following each country’s standard address format. For example, a US address needs a state and a ZIP code. A UK or German address has no state field. A Hong Kong or UAE address has no postal code, and a Singapore address has no city. The field labels change with the country too, such as Province, Prefecture or Postcode.
