Bring a whole catalogue in from a spreadsheet, or move it from Shopify, in one go.

Import a file

1

Open the import

Go to Products, click Import Products and choose From a CSV file.
2

Choose your file

Pick a .csv file up to 15 MB and 5,000 products. A Shopify Export products file works as it is. Starting from scratch? Click Download a template for a file with the right columns.
3

Check what was found

Nothing is added yet. You see how many products are ready to add, how many are already in your store and how many need fixing, each problem in a plain sentence with its line number.
4

Add them

Click Add. Products go up a few at a time with a progress bar; keep the window open until it finishes. Photos are copied to your store, so they keep working if the old store closes.

Products that are already in your store

A product is “already in your store” when a product with the same handle (the last part of its web address, for example cotton-tee) exists.
  • By default they are left as they are, so importing the same file twice never makes duplicates.
  • Tick “Update products that already exist” to replace them with what’s in the file, like Shopify’s Overwrite products with matching handles. Their title, description, type, vendor, tags, options, prices, stock and photos come from the file. Each product keeps its web address, reviews, collections and order history, and whether it’s live or a draft stays as it is.
    • Variants are matched by SKU, then by their option values (for example Size: M), and updated in place. Variants the file doesn’t list are removed; new ones are added.
    • A description or photos left empty in the file keep what the product has now.

What’s read from the file

| SEO Title, SEO Description | The product’s search engine listing | | Variant Barcode | Each variant’s barcode (a leading ' added by spreadsheets is removed) | | Image Alt Text | Each photo’s alt text | Columns with no place to go are listed under columns not used before you import, so you know they were skipped.

Arrange product photos

On a product’s page, drag a photo to a new place, or use the Move earlier / Move later buttons. The first photo is the Featured one shoppers see first. The new order is saved at once and shows on your store within seconds.

For developers

  • POST /api/v1/products/import/csv/preview with { "csv": "<file text>" } returns the parsed items.
  • POST /api/v1/products/import/csv with { "items": [...], "keep_as_draft": false, "update_existing": false } saves up to 10 products per call. Each result has ok, and skipped (already in the store) or updated (overwritten because update_existing was true). Retrying a batch is safe.
