Your checkout runs on platformdtc.com, a checkout address shared by every PlatformDTC store. So shoppers can see who they are buying from and on what terms, the checkout footer shows your store name and your store policies. Card networks expect a refund policy, a privacy policy and a way to reach customer service on the checkout before a customer pays, and a customer who can find your refund policy and your support email is less likely to dispute a charge they don’t recognise. You don’t have to write them. PlatformDTC generates your policies from your store’s details, publishes them, and updates them when those details change. You can review, edit or replace any of them in Settings → Policies (platformdtc.com/setting/policies).

What gets generated

Your country and support phone come from your PlatformDTC Payments account. A phone number that can’t be dialled isn’t used. Your registered business name and business address are never published for you. Generated policies name your store, not the company behind it, and no address is added. If you need either in your policies — some countries require it of registered traders — edit the policy and write it in. That policy becomes Custom, so your wording is never overwritten.
Generated policies only state facts your store has given us. If we don’t know something, like how long your orders take to process, the policy doesn’t mention it. It never guesses. Generated text is a starting point, not legal advice: check that each policy matches how your store operates and the laws where you sell.

Set your return rules

Your refund policy is written from your Return rules, at the top of Settings → Policies:
  • Accept returns: turn this off if all sales are final. Your refund policy then says so, and only covers damaged or incorrect items.
  • Return window: 14, 30, 60 or 90 days, or any number from 7 to 365.
  • Return shipping: the customer pays, or returns are free.
  • Restocking fee: 0–50% of the item price.
Until you set return rules, your refund policy tells customers to contact you to request a return, without promising a window.

Auto-generated, custom or off

Each policy shows where its text comes from:
  • Auto-generated: kept up to date automatically when your store details change (checked daily, and right away when you save return rules).
  • Custom: you edited the text and saved it. Automatic updates stop for that policy, so your wording is never overwritten.
  • Turned off: you cleared the text and clicked Unpublish. The policy is hidden from your checkout and won’t be recreated.
To go back to the generated text, click Reset to auto-generated on the policy.

What shoppers see

At the bottom of the checkout:
  • Sold by your store name, linked to your store.
  • Visit store and Contact us.
  • A link for each published policy. It opens the policy on the checkout page, so the customer doesn’t lose their cart.
To change your country or support phone, update your business details in Settings → Payment Provider. Your generated policies pick up the change within a day.

Good to know

  • Your support agent uses these too. The support agent answers customers’ refund and shipping questions from your published refund and shipping policies.
  • Formatting. Headings, lists, bold text and links are kept. Scripts, embeds and styling are removed when you save.
