Every store starts on a free subdomain of myshopquantum.ai. To sell on your own address, such as yourbrand.com or shop.yourbrand.com, connect a domain you own. PlatformDTC checks your DNS, issues the SSL certificate and renews it for you. You never upload a certificate. Domains are managed at Settings → Domains. The page has three parts, in the order you use them: Default subdomain, Custom domains and Email from your domain.
This guide covers the dashboard. To connect domains from code or an agent, see the Domains API.

Before you start

  • Own the domain. PlatformDTC does not sell domains. Buy one from any registrar, and make sure you can edit its DNS records, either at the registrar or wherever your DNS is hosted.
  • Publish your store first. Until your store has been set up, the Custom domains card shows Publish a project first and the Connect domain button is disabled. Publish at least one project, then come back.

Your free subdomain

The Default subdomain card shows your store’s free address (for example yourstore.myshopquantum.ai). It is always active, even after you connect your own domain. To change it, click Change, type a new name and click Save. The name must be 3–63 characters, using only a–z, 0–9 and dashes, and not already used by another store. The old address stops working immediately, so update any links that use it.

Connect a domain

1

Add the domain

In Custom domains, click Connect domain. Type the domain without http:// and without a trailing slash, for example shop.yourbrand.com or yourbrand.com, and click Add domain.
  • A subdomain (shop.yourbrand.com) is connected on its own.
  • A root domain (yourbrand.com) is always connected together with its www version (www.yourbrand.com). Typing www.yourbrand.com connects the same pair.
2

Copy the DNS records

The domain appears in the list and opens a table of the records to add, with the columns Type, Name, Value and Proxy. Use the copy button next to each value. The exact values are specific to the platform and shown only in your dashboard, so always copy them from the table rather than from another site.
3

Add the records at your DNS provider

Sign in to your DNS provider, create each record exactly as shown, and save.
4

Let PlatformDTC check

Click I’ve added it — check now (or I’ve added them — check now), or just wait: the check also runs automatically. When the status changes to Connected, your store is live on the domain over HTTPS.

The DNS records to add

What the table asks for depends on the kind of domain you entered. A few details matter:
  • Add every row. A root domain lists more than one A record on the same name. Add all of them.
  • Proxy: DNS only. The Proxy column says DNS only for your routing records. If your DNS is hosted on Cloudflare, set the record to DNS only (grey cloud), not Proxied (orange cloud). A proxied record hides your domain from PlatformDTC and the check never passes.
  • Verification records. While a subdomain’s certificate is being set up, the table can also list one or more TXT records. Add them too, in the same pass. If the table shows Generating verification record…, wait a moment and they appear.
  • Remove conflicting records. Delete any other A, AAAA or CNAME record on the same name. Otherwise some visitors still reach the old host.
If the Connect domain dialog says root domains need a host with ALIAS/CNAME flattening, your root domain’s table asks for an ALIAS record on @ instead of A records. Add it at a DNS provider that supports ALIAS or CNAME flattening (for example Cloudflare), or connect a subdomain such as www or shop, which works on every provider.

Verification and SSL

You don’t need to do anything once the records are in place:
  • The check runs by itself. While a domain is being set up, PlatformDTC rechecks your DNS about every 30–60 seconds. The domains list refreshes on its own every few seconds while a domain is in progress, so you can leave the page open and watch it change.
  • Root domains are connected once yourbrand.com resolves to the addresses shown (checked against public DNS) and the store answers there over HTTPS. The certificate is issued automatically as soon as the domain resolves. www never blocks the root domain from going live.
  • Subdomains get their certificate automatically once the records are found, usually within 2–3 minutes.
  • DNS changes can take time to spread. How quickly depends on your DNS provider and the record’s TTL. If a check doesn’t pass straight away, give it a few minutes before changing anything.
Certificates are renewed automatically for as long as the domain points at PlatformDTC.

What each status means

Choose your primary domain

Your primary domain is the one customers see in the address bar. It is also used in order emails, links you share and the tags search engines read. It is marked Primary in the list.
  • Your first connected domain becomes primary automatically if your store doesn’t have one yet. PlatformDTC never replaces a primary you chose.
  • To change it, click Set primary on a connected domain and confirm with Make primary. The old primary then redirects to the new one, so existing links keep working. Search engines take a while to catch up, so your store may move in search results for a few weeks.
  • If other domains still show your store on their own address, the confirmation offers Also redirect your other domains. Leave it off if you use them as standalone landing pages.
For a root domain, www follows its root: when either one is primary, the other redirects to it.

Redirect or serve other domains

Every connected domain that isn’t primary does one of two things, shown under its name:
  • Redirects to your primary domain. Visitors are sent to the same page on the primary domain, with the path and query kept, using a permanent (301) redirect. This is the default for domains you add after you have a primary.
  • Serving separately. The domain shows your store on its own address.
Switch a domain with Redirect or Stop redirecting. A www domain always follows its root domain, so change the root domain instead. When several domains serve your store separately, a banner offers Redirect them. Search engines treat each serving domain as a separate copy of your store, which splits your ranking. Click Redirect them to send them all to your primary domain, or Dismiss if you use them as ad landing pages on purpose.

Remove a domain

Click the trash icon on the domain’s row and confirm with Remove domain. Your store stops being served on that address and its certificate is retired. You can connect the domain again later, on this store or another one.
  • Removing a root domain removes its www too. You can’t remove www on its own.
  • Email on that domain is removed with it. If the domain is the last one on its root that carries your email, the confirmation warns you. Mailboxes on the domain and the mail in them are deleted, or your store goes back to sending from [email protected]. This can’t be undone.

Email on your domain

Below your domains, Email from your domain lets you send order emails, campaigns and support replies from your own address. A domain has to be connected here first. To read mail sent to your domain inside PlatformDTC, see Connect your inboxes to Support.

Troubleshooting

The Connect domain button is disabled, or the card says “Publish a project first”. Your store hasn’t been set up yet. Publish at least one project, then connect the domain. “Enter a valid domain (no http://, no trailing slash).” Type only the hostname, such as shop.yourbrand.com. “Could not add domain” … “is already registered to another store”. Each domain can be connected to one store only. Remove it from the other store first. If you don’t own that store, contact support. The domain stays on “Setting up SSL” or “Add DNS record”.
  • Compare each record at your DNS provider with the table, character by character. A common mistake is a provider that appends your domain to the name automatically, turning shop into shop.yourbrand.com.yourbrand.com. Enter the name exactly as the provider expects.
  • If your DNS is on Cloudflare, make sure the record is DNS only, not Proxied.
  • Delete old A, AAAA or CNAME records on the same name.
  • Then click check now.
Check now shows “Could not trigger check”. The automatic check for this domain has stopped, so there is nothing to recheck. Click Connect domain and add the same domain again. For a domain that is already on your store, this restarts the check and keeps its records. There is no Set primary or Redirect button on a domain. Those actions appear only on connected domains that aren’t primary. Wait until the domain shows Connected. To stop the primary domain from being primary, make another domain primary; the old one then redirects to it. “Set to redirect, but no primary domain is set.” The domain is set to redirect but has nowhere to go. Set a primary domain, or click Stop redirecting.
