PlatformDTC POS lets you sell in person — at a shop, a market stall or a pop-up — on the same platform that runs your online store. It opens from Point of Sale in your PlatformDTC dashboard, in the browser.

What you can do

Take payments
  • Card payments on a countertop smart reader paired to your store.
  • Cash, with the change to give back worked out for you.
  • Split payments — part card, part cash, or several cards — on one sale.
Build the sale
  • Add products and variants from your catalog, at the prices in your catalog.
  • Add a custom item with its own name and price, and choose whether it is taxed.
  • Apply a discount to the whole cart, as a percentage or a fixed amount, with a reason.
  • Tax is added at the tax rate you set for the location.
  • Attach a customer from your customer list, or create a new one with their email, phone and name.
Run the counter
  • A cash drawer per location: open it with a float, record cash paid in and paid out, and close it by counting the cash — PlatformDTC shows what it expected and the difference.
  • Receipts by email, or printed.
  • Refunds back to the original card or in cash, with the option to put the items back in stock.
  • Multiple locations, each with its own tax rate, readers and cash drawer.

One set of orders and customers

Every completed sale becomes an order in Orders, tagged Point of Sale, next to your online orders. The order is marked paid and fulfilled — the customer leaves with the items. A customer you attach or create is the same customer record your online store uses. An in-person order gets your receipt instead of the online order-confirmation email.

Before you start

Set up PlatformDTC Payments

POS takes card payments on your store’s PlatformDTC Payments account. If card payments are not active on your store yet, POS asks you to finish setting up payments in Settings → Payment Provider first.

Get a card reader

Readers are supplied by PlatformDTC. Contact sales to order one. You can sell with cash before a reader arrives.

Set up a location, pair the reader, open the drawer

Follow Set up a location, Pair a card reader and Cash drawer, then take a payment.

Good to know

  • POS needs an internet connection. Card payments are authorised online, and every sale — card or cash — is recorded on PlatformDTC as it happens. There is no offline mode: if the connection drops, wait for it to come back before taking the next payment.
  • Locations and readers belong to your payments account’s country, and sales are taken in that country’s currency.
  • Card payments cost your plan’s card rate — the same rate as online card payments. See Payment fees and rates. Cash sales carry no payment fee.
